Step 1

Sanding the furniture will gently coax old wood out of retirement. Weathered, painted or varnished wood should be sanded back until it is clean and sound, then treated as bare wood. Avoid the inhalation of dust and wear a suitable face mask when sanding. Previously oiled hardwoods should be sanded and then cleaned down with white spirit.

Step 2

Always wipe down the surface with white spirit before application to remove any natural oils, resins and sanding dust.

Step 3

Stir well before and during use. Apply even coats, brushing in the direction of the grain and avoiding overlaps. Pay particular attention to sealing joints and all end grains. The first coat can be thinned up to 15% with white spirit to improve penetration and adhesion.
