Ronseal Stays White Ultra Tough Paint

This is our toughest wood paint. It'll give your wood the ultimate protection against knocks and scrapes. Keeping your home looking it's best for longer - ideal if you've got kids or pets, or both!

Before you start

Make sure your room is above 10⁰c. Open your doors and windows for ventilation. Put down dusts sheets to cover everything you don't want to get paint on.

Prep - Bare Wood

Lightly sand your wood to give it an even finish. Use 120 grit sandpaper and sand in the direction of the wood grain. Remember to wear a face mask. When the dust has settled, give the area a quick vacuum and wipe it down with white spirit. Fill any hole or cracks with our Multi-Purpose Wood Filler. Then use our Knot Block Wood Primer and Undercoat. This will help your paint last longer and permanently block wood knots from showing through your paint.

Prep - Previously Painted Wood

If your old wood is in good condition, give it a light sand with 240 grit sandpaper. Then use our Knot Block Primer and Undercoat. This will help your paint last longer and will permanently block wood knots from showing through your paint. If your paint is cracked or flaking, you'll need to sand it back to bare wood. The easiest way to do this is with an electric sander. Use 120 grit sandpaper and sand in the direction of the wood grain. It creates a lot of dust so make sure you wear a face mask. When the dust has settled, give the area a quick vacuum and wipe it down with white spirit. Fill any hole or cracks with our Multi-Purpose Wood Filler. For holes and cracks that are bigger than 5mm use our High Performance Wood Filler. Then use our Knot Block Primer and Undercoat. This will help your paint last longer and permanently block wood knots from showing through your paint.

Prep - Metal

For previously painted metal in good condition, lightly sand with fine wet and dry sandpaper. Wipe with white spirit. Flaking paint needs to be removed. Any bare metal needs priming with a suitable metal primer before painting. Don't use on rusty metal.

Using Our Ultra Tough Paint

Give it a really good stir. Then paint it on with a synthetic brush in the direction of the wood grain. Leave it to dry for 4 hours then put your second coat on. This will be touch dry in 30 minutes. That's it, job done.

Clean Up

Take off as much paint from your brushes as you can. Then, wash them in warm, soapy water. Don't empty any left over paint into drains or watercourses. Your local authority may ave special ways to get rid of any unused paint.
