  • Why do I need to protect my deck?

    Decking looks great when it's first laid but it does need protecting from the elements. UV rays grey the wood over time and water can cause it to swell, crack and split. Protecting your deck with a coating such as a stain, oil or protector revives the colour and keeps it looking like new.

  • What's the difference between a protector, a stain and an oil?

    Basically, a stain sits on top of the deck giving a more opaque finish and masks some of the woodgrain. An oil penetrates into the wood giving a more natural finish and allows the woodgrain to show through. Protectors are mainly used to guard against damage by water and are used on softwood decking.

  • How do I know when I need to reapply?

    Ideally, you should check your decking every year and re treat when necessary. If water beads on the surface, that means the protector is still effective.
